I picked up a DSLR for the first time in December of 2006. In February of 2007, Haskins Photography Inc. was born, and during the next 90 days I booked 9 paying weddings. Since that time I've documented nearly 30 weddings, including a destination wedding in Negril, Jamaica. I've also been invited to document weddings in Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Ochos Rios, Akumal, Maryland, Virginia, and California.
Recently I was offered the unique chance to personally train all of Sandals resorts staff photographers, as well as being invited to speak for the Professional Photographers of West Michigan set for September of 2009. In addition to running a rapidly expanding wedding photography business, I organized and started LUMU!, an off camera flash and networking shoot shop. In 2008 upon the recommendations from my peers, I started Album Guys; a full service custom wedding album design firm, as well as Showit Sites Designs; a website with "Styles Groups" available for download exclusively for users of Showit Sites developed by wedding photographer and young entrepreneur David Jay.
All of this has been achieved in under 2 years. It has been an amazing ride so far, and feel blessed that I am able to do what I love!
I contribute my rapid success to the "open source" movement that is sweeping across the photography industry (and of course my super patient wife). The fact that those photographers shared their secrets inspired me to be a teacher myself, and now share the secrets that I have discovered along the way by organizing and running LUMU!, the off camera flash and networking shoot shop.
